5 Healthy Alternatives To Coffee

If you're like many of us, starting a busy day with a hot mug of coffee is second nature. Hearing the machine fill up our favorite mug with that wonderful smelling bean water.... we can't get enough! There is nothing that beats a cup of coffee....or is there?

Coffee, like anything, is not that unhealthy for you in moderation, but if you return to the coffee machine multiple times throughout the day, you could be filling your body with loads of caffeine and scary amounts of sugar, depending on how you like your cup of Joe. So knowing this, it begs the question....what else is out there? What will help me get through my day just as easily as coffee, but is healthier for me?

Here are 5 alternatives to coffee that will make your mind and your body healthier, while still giving you that little pep in your step!

1. Green Tea

Green tea is full of antioxidants that help your body fight diseases. This ancient remedy has slightly less caffeine than coffee, so it has enough to give you that boost you need, but without all the jitters.

2. Yerba Mate

Yerba mate has been used as a base for herbal medicines in South America for centuries. Yerba mate contains vitamins A, C, E, as well as calcium, iron, potassium, even caffeine, with health benefits that there are too many to name! This super tea will provide your body with everything you need to get you through your day, boost your immune system, and keep you alert!

3. Coconut Water

Coconut water is packed with antioxidants, amino acids, enzymes, vitamin C, minerals like iron, calcium, potassium, and much more. Wow! If you find yourself buying iced coffee on a daily basis, replace it with an ice-cold glass of coconut water, or even throw it in a fruit smoothie to energize your day!

4. Hot Apple Cider

Hot apple cider's sweet tanginess offers its own unique energy boost similar to caffeine, and its soothing warmth is just as satisfying as that of coffee on an early fall morning. In addition to its natural sweetness, because apples are the key ingredient, it is full of natural sugars. Add some cinnamon which has been proven to lower cholesterol, and you are ready to go until lunch time!

5. Sparkling Water

While it's not the most exciting beverage in the world, sparkling water can be a refreshing alternative to both coffee and water. Sparkling water is great because you can add fresh fruit like lemons or strawberries and even a little bit of mint to create an eye-opening beverage that is sure to help you conquer the morning!
