Are My AfterShokz Safe In The Sauna?

It’s getting hot in here, so sync up your headphones! Spending a few moments in the sauna is a quick and easy way to speed up recovery time and reduce the possibility of injury, but would your AfterShokz actually hold up against the challenge of a sweltering climate? In short, yes! Our headphones are designed to withstand some pretty extreme elements and temperatures. Whether you’re skiing down the slopes after a fresh powder or trekking through a canyon in the summer heat, AfterShokz has got you covered. We consulted with our incredible Customer Happiness Team to give you the scoop on staying safe while you wear AfterShokz on your next trip to the sauna.

Before we spill the real tea, allow us to clarify the difference between a sauna and a steam room. Typically, most people enjoy relaxation or recovery time in a dry sauna. These are the spaces you’ll often see at fitness clubs, spas, and bathhouses and they can reach dry heat temperatures of up to 195º F. More commonly, dry saunas are set to a “comfortable” 140º F and sauna bathers will oftentimes introduce low amounts of humidity to the enclosure by pouring water over hot rocks.

Unlike dry saunas, steam rooms are considerably cooler in temperature (typically around 110º F)  and instead feature high humidity levels and moist heat. Due to the high temperatures in both heat therapy spaces, a short 10 to 15-minute stay is recommended to receive wellness benefits while avoiding injury or heat exposure.

Now that that’s covered, it’s time to get the scoop on what makes our headphone designs resilient against sauna temperatures.

Q: Can I take any pair of AfterShokz wireless headphones into the sauna?

A: You betcha! All of our wireless headphones can withstand temperatures of up to 131º F. This means that while you can’t stay in a sauna for too long (anything over 15 minutes is not recommended, according to most sources), your headphones will certainly stand up to the test of a quick 10-minute session.

Q: How will my Titanium or Air hold up in a dry sauna?

A: Titanium and Air both have an IP55 water-resistant rating. This means that while a steam room may produce too much humidity and moisture to achieve an optimal listening experience, both our Titanium and Air models are dry sauna-friendly. So get your sweat on without worry! Perspiration is inevitable when it comes to heat therapy, but the water-resistant rating and the durable titanium frame keep your headphones protected from unwanted internal electrical shortages.

Q: Why shouldn’t I use Titanium or Air in a steam room?

A: Although both models are designed with water-resistant construction, AfterShokz Titanium and AfterShokz Air headphones are more likely to sustain water damage than our newer wireless models. Because of this (and the 100-percent humidity climate), we don’t recommend using either model in a steam room.

Q: Are Aeropex and Xtrainerz safe for sauna use?

A: Another yes. *DJ Khaled voice* Aeropex and Xtrainerz feature the two highest IP waterproof ratings available in our entire product line. Aeropex delivers waterproof protection with an IP67 rating, making it perfect for both the steam room and the dry sauna. Not only are Aeropex waterproof, but they also include a moisture detection feature that will alert you if your headphones battery is at risk of water damage.

For those looking for a high-quality listening experience that can stand the test of sweltering heat and intense humidity, AfterShokz Xtrainerz are your absolute best option. Q: Just for fun, what’s the coldest temperature AfterShokz headphones can withstand?

A: If you can’t take the heat, don’t worry! All AfterShokz wireless headphone models can withstand cold temperatures as low as 0º F. While our headphones have been rated to function at even chillier temperatures (up to -22º C/-7.6º F), prolonged exposure can result in damaged battery life, so it’s best to use discretion in sub-zero weather.
