ShokzStars Share How & Why They Got Into Running

Have you ever looked at runners, joggers, or people doing marathons and thought “I wish I could do that?” Allow us to let you in on a little secret...you can! Running requires a certain amount of discipline, and getting started is often the hardest part. You need a solid reason to release the runner inside of you, so we’ve drawn running inspiration from our ShokzStars to help you out a little!

“I was confined to a wheelchair with an autoimmune disease, so once I got better, I swore to never take my legs for granted again.” - Stephanie Rosburg

“My why is simply because I CAN. To me it’s truly a gift.” - Rachel Capone

“Over the years running has become a form of meditation. A time to turn inward and reflect. A time to enjoy nature. To enjoy movement.” - Tricia McGinn

“My why is my 7-month-old son. After I had back in August, I realized how easy it would be to lose myself in an endless cycle of nursing, burping, playing, napping, etc. One of the things I told myself before having my son was that I was not going to lose myself.

I love being a mom, but I'm not JUST a mom. I'm a person who needs my daily runs to feel strong, and independent. Yes, I'm a mom. But I'm also a runner, and a student and a wife. Running helps me be me.” - Kristin LaFontaine

“I started running as a way to work through the grief of unexpectedly losing my mom. Running became a place where nothing else mattered and a place where I fully felt like myself. Since then, running has helped me work through other heartbreaks and triumphs in my life.” - Jenn Smith

“It's definitely a stress reliever for me. It also just brings me joy. I love to challenge myself and running allows me to do so. Also it has brought so many wonderful people into my life!!” - Ashley Huffman

“Because I can. It is a privilege to be able to lace up my shoes, put on my Aftershokz and move. I also love the connections I can make with people through running. When you meet someone who is a runner you have an instant connection.

That’s been one of the toughest things to deal with during this crisis is not being able to join group runs or see my running friends in person. But, running solo is a great way to clear my mind and reset myself.” - Kevin Montano

“Mine is simple.  My why is for my kids.  I want my kids to grow up with an active lifestyle and I lead by example.” - Jon Bohnsack

“I started running after watching a friend crossing an Ironman finish line. The atmosphere that day was so high, I wanted to be part of it! Later on I realized that is really not the finish line, but the journey to get there that gives you the good vibes to go on with your everyday life!” - Claudia Cornacchione

“My original ‘why’ was just to lose some weight (i weighed 200+ lbs and was officially “obese” by BMI). my current ‘why’ is composed of a bazillion different reasons! I run because I love being outside in nature, I love being in the mountains, I love being able to prove on a daily basis that I am someone who can do hard things.

I love the feeling of improving and getting faster, I love seeing the person that running has helped me become, I love the feeling of pushing through the suffering (especially during an ultra!), and I love the emotional and mental release that running gives me every day.” - Claire Farrow

“My why to start running was to honor my dad and the millions of people with COPD worldwide. What started out as running a marathon to raise awareness has turned into running 59 marathons all over the United States to be a voice for the people that don't have one.” - Justin Daniels
