I’ve always wanted to be someone who loves running. I don’t know if I’ll ever get there, and I also don’t know if it’s a real thing, or if people just say it to make themselves feel better. BUT I’ve started this running journey, and I’m not quitting.
Back in September, Kim and I packed our bags and headed to work at the San Jose Rock ‘n’ Roll Expo; the first of 4 RnR events on our list for 2015. After our last day of selling at the event, we headed to a nice dinner to unWINEd from our long weekend of work. We sat next to a table with two best friends (shoutout to Barb and Viv!) and overheard them talking about the race the next day.
Long story short, they’ve been traveling across the country for over 30 years racing together - not competitively, but to stay healthy and have a reason to spend time together. They totally inspired us, and Kim promised them we’d sign up for a race later this year. After some minor hesitation from both of us, we registered to relay the half in San Antonio on December 6th.
Now, we’re not doing this to break any records, and we’re mapping out where the paramedics are located along the track - but we do have high hopes of finishing this half as a team *knock on wood*. Training hasn’t been a walk in the park, with Kim being the busiest mom and worker I know, and myself experiencing numerous injuries along the way, but we’ve given it a solid effort these past couple of months.
Aside from some aches and pains, we’re actually really looking forward to this race. Every runner we’ve mentioned our participation to has given us so much motivation and encouragement. Rumor has it, when you want to give up, the crowd keeps you going - and lucky for us, we’ll hear them along with our AfterShokz.
We’ve got some big (running) plans in the works for 2016, so this’ll be the first of many stepping stones prepping for that.
